Workshop Overview
The INSTANT II Follow-on Workshop brought together approximately 40 members of the US polar geophysics community to discuss the future of geodetic-geophysical observational networks in Antarctica and the Arctic. This workshop built upon the foundational discussions from the 2022 Fort Collins meeting and addressed current challenges and opportunities in polar geophysical research.
Key Topics
🔬 Observational Network Planning
Discussions focused on the future of POLENET and the integration of seismic and geodetic networks across polar regions. Participants addressed questions of network design, station density, and long-term sustainability.
🧊 Integration with ITGC
Coordination with the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC) was a major theme, including how geophysical observations can support ice sheet modeling and prediction efforts.
💾 Data Management
Participants discussed best practices for data archiving, sharing, and accessibility, including integration with international databases and compliance with FAIR data principles.
🎓 Early Career Opportunities
Special sessions focused on creating opportunities for early career researchers, including field work experiences, training workshops, and collaboration mechanisms.
